MenCare and our partners launched the first ever Situação da Paternidade no Mundo report in June 2015, providing a global view of the state of men’s contribution to parenting and caregiving. The report was unveiled at the United Nations headquarters in New York and subsequently launched in 10 other cities around the world. We reached millions of individuals, informed new paternity leave bills and legislation in three countries, and published regional and thematic summaries that have inspired further advocacy for men’s involvement in equitable, nonviolent caregiving.

Building on the momentum of Situação da Paternidade no Mundo and partners’ related reports around the world, MenCare will launch Estado dos Pais da América in the United States in June 2016 – just in time for Father’s Day.

A flagship report, Estado dos Pais da América aims to increase the visibility and value of care work in the United States at the national level with never-before-analyzed data and bold policy recommendations. It seeks to influence and improve policies and programming for parents, particularly for the most vulnerable families and fathers.The report also aims to increase support for men’s caregiving more broadly, as a strategy to advance gender equality and social justice and to improve family well-being.

Estado dos Pais da América will discuss fatherhood in the United States through a comprehensive lens, with a focus on equality and diversity. From looking at fathers’ roles in childcare and how they achieve work-life balance, to examining what it means to be a nonresident father, this report will take an honest look at what fatherhood means for American dads in 2016.

Estado dos Pais da América is coordinated by Equimundo, and its editorial board includes representatives from the Families and Work Institute; the Center for Research on Fathers, Children and Family Well-Being at Columbia University; the Centro de Estudos do Homem e das Masculinidades at Stony Brook University; the Parceria Nacional para Mulheres e Famílias; and the University of Maryland.
