State of the World’s Fathers: A MenCare Advocacy Webinar

Watch this MenCare: A Global Fatherhood Campaign webinar to learn how to use the global State of the World’s Fathers (SOWF) 2019 report to catalyze national advocacy and action to advance men’s caregiving and gender equality. The webinar was recorded in the lead up to the launch of the SOWF 2019 report on June 5 at the Women Deliver 2019 Conference in Vancouver, Canada.

The SOWF 2019 report reveals new data on men’s caregiving from 11 countries, with additional, cross-country data analysis from over 30 countries. It provides a platform for men’s uptake of their full share of the world’s childcare and domestic work – across all societies and relationships – as part of the solution to achieving gender equality. It provides concrete recommendations for actions in five key areas to close the gender gap in unpaid care.

Since 2015, national and global advocacy efforts tied to State of the World’s Fathers have motivated long-term partnerships and coalitions. MenCare partners have led translations of the report into six languages as well as have created nine regional adaptations, using these resources alongside global and national data to inform debates and introduce new paternity and parental leave policies in Netherlands, Brazil, South Africa, in Washington, DC, and more. The report has been launched at the United Nations in New York and Geneva as well as in more than 10 other cities around the world. The 2019 report, as with the previous editions (released in 2015 and 2017), will catalyze new – and reinforce existing – national advocacy efforts.

This webinar aims to support MenCare partners and friends to learn from those who have conducted successful, national advocacy efforts on fatherhood and men’s caregiving, and to understand opportunities, obstacles, and strategies for utilizing the report.
