Sonke welcomes passing of Labour Laws Amendment Bill as landmark achievement for all parents in South Africa

Sonke Gender Justice, MenCare’s global co-coordinator, welcomed the acceptance of the Labour Laws Amendment Bill (LLAB) by South Africa’s National Assembly on November 28, 2017. The legislation provides for 10 days of parental/paternity leave for new fathers and non-birth-giving mothers, along with expanded adoption leave, increased maternity leave benefits, and additional parental and workplace protections.

If we can find an answer to the question of greater involvement by fathers in the care of their children, millions of women and children will benefit from better care and dads themselves will have an improved quality of life. 

Engaging men as gender-equitable fathers and caregivers to reduce malnutrition in Mozambique

Concern Worldwide is working to address chronic malnutrition and extreme poverty in Mozambique by engaging men in shared caregiving and gender equality, as part of its Linking Agribusiness and Nutrition (LAN) project in the country’s Manica and Zambezia provinces. No father wants an unhealthy or unhappy family, which is what initially motivates most men to join Concern’s LAN project
